We're Invisible in ChatGPT and Competitors Get Named

A prospect mentions that they "asked ChatGPT" before the call. You try the same question and get an answer naming three competitors. Your company is not in it, even though you rank on Google for the same topic.

Why AI answers leave you out

AI assistants build an answer from sources they can read and trust. When you are missing, it is usually for reasons you can check.

The engines cannot read your pages well

Blocked crawlers, content that only appears after JavaScript runs, or pages without clear text answers make it hard for AI systems to use your site at all.

Your pages do not answer the buyer's question

A homepage full of slogans does not tell an engine what you do, for whom and how you compare. A page that states it plainly gives the engine something to use.

Nobody else mentions you

Assistants often draw on third-party sources: reviews, comparisons, directories, articles. If those talk about your competitors and not about you, the answer follows them.

Your entity is unclear

Inconsistent company names, missing structured data or a product name shared with something else make it harder for an engine to connect your pages into one clear company.

The answer you saw is one run

AI answers vary between runs, engines and phrasings. One missing mention is an observation for that question, not proof that buyers never find you.

Run your buyer questions yourself

Write down five to ten questions a real buyer would ask before choosing a product like yours, then run them more than once.

- Ask each question in ChatGPT and Perplexity, and note who is named and which sources are linked.
- Check that robots.txt does not block the search crawlers you want, such as OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and Claude-SearchBot. Training crawlers like GPTBot are a separate choice.
- Open your key pages with JavaScript turned off and see whether the main text is still there.
- Find the page on your site that answers each buyer question in plain words. If there is none, that is a gap.
- Search for your competitors on review and comparison sites, then search for yourself.
- Make sure your company name, product name and description are the same everywhere you control.

Observe, fix what you control, re-measure

I start by recording what the engines actually say: a fixed set of buyer questions, run on the engines that matter to you, with every answer and cited source recorded. The free [AI visibility audit](https://yanivgoldenberg.com/ai-visibility-audit/) does a first pass of this, asking Perplexity 8 buyer-intent questions live. The method behind it is in [how to measure AI search visibility](https://yanivgoldenberg.com/how-to-measure-ai-search-visibility/).

Then I fix what is in your control, in order: crawler access and readable pages, clear answers to the buyer questions on the right pages, consistent entity data and structured data. After that comes the slower work of earning mentions on the third-party sources the engines already cite.

Results are re-measured with the same questions over time, because single answers move. A full engagement is described on the [GEO](https://yanivgoldenberg.com/geo/) page.

What the site can show

I have no published client GEO result yet, so this page does not promise one. What is on the site is the method and the research: my [State of AI Search Visibility 2026](https://yanivgoldenberg.com/state-of-ai-search-visibility-2026/) benchmark scored 61 SaaS and AI sites (June 2026 rescore) on a 100-point readiness rubric, and 56% scored 60 or lower. The rubric is a historical checklist; the scores do not establish citation or ranking.

After the free audit

If your checks show you missing from answers that matter and your team cannot fix the pages and the off-site mentions alone, a 15-minute call will tell us whether the paid [GEO audit](https://yanivgoldenberg.com/geo-audit/) is the right next step. GEO work is scope-dependent.

Questions about being missing from AI answers

If we rank on Google, why are we not in ChatGPT?

Search rankings and AI answers use different signals. AI assistants pick a few sources for one answer, and which few they pick is not the same as Google's ranking.

Can you guarantee that ChatGPT will mention us?

No. Nobody controls what an AI assistant says. What can be done is to remove the reasons you are left out and measure the change over time.

Which engines should we track?

Start with ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Gemini, then ask recent customers which they actually use.

Is llms.txt enough?

No. It can help engines find your key pages, but it does not replace readable pages, clear answers and outside mentions. See [llms.txt explained](https://yanivgoldenberg.com/llms-txt-explained/).
