Growth Diagnostic Payback Calculator

Built the growth engine that took cnvrg.io to its acquisition by Intel.

What would a fixed-scope Diagnostic have to recover to pay for itself? Enter the revenue in scope, your margin and your payback window; both ends of the $6–8K range are computed.

Diagnostic payback calculator

What a fixed-scope Diagnostic ($6–8K) has to recover to pay for itself, at both ends of the range.

Amounts in USD. Both ends of the $6–8K range are computed; no midpoint is used.

How this is calculated
  1. Gross-profit gain needed per month = Diagnostic price ÷ payback window (at USD 6,000 and at USD 8,000)
  2. Share of current gross profit = gain needed ÷ (monthly revenue × gross margin)
  3. Payback months = price ÷ (monthly revenue × gross margin × assumed improvement)

Revenue of the funnel the Diagnostic would examine. Allowed input: 0–1000000000000 USD/month.

Your gross margin on that revenue. Allowed input: 0–100 %.

How fast the Diagnostic must pay for itself. Allowed input: 1–36 months.

Optional: your own assumption, not a promised result. Allowed input: 0–100 %.

What this calculator answers

Before buying a Diagnostic, a founder or CFO wants to know how small an improvement would cover it. The calculator works backwards from the price to the monthly gross-profit gain needed within your window, and shows it as a share of the gross profit you already make.

How the calculator works

The Diagnostic is $6–8K, fixed scope. The calculator runs at 6,000 and at 8,000 and never uses a midpoint. The gain needed per month is the price divided by your payback window. Divided by your current monthly gross profit it becomes a percentage; divided by your margin it becomes the revenue gain needed. If you enter an improvement you expect, it also shows the payback in months.

A worked example with hypothetical numbers

A funnel bringing in 200,000 a month at a 60% gross margin makes 120,000 a month in gross profit. To pay back within six months, a Diagnostic at 6,000 needs an extra 1,000 of gross profit a month, which is 0.83% of current gross profit; at 8,000 it needs 1,333.33, or 1.11%. These numbers illustrate the arithmetic; they are not a benchmark or a client result.

What the result does not tell you

The Diagnostic finds and ranks the leaks; the gain comes from fixing them, which takes your team or a separate engagement. The improvement you enter is your assumption, not a promised result.

Turn the result into a next step

Compare the gain needed with the biggest leak you already suspect. The Full-Funnel Growth Diagnostic page describes the scope, and a 15-minute call is the fastest way to check whether it fits.

Diagnostic payback questions

What does the Diagnostic cost?

$6–8K, fixed scope, agreed before the work starts. The calculator computes both ends of the range instead of a midpoint.

Does the Diagnostic guarantee the improvement?

No. It identifies and ranks where revenue leaks and what to fix first. The gain depends on the fixes being made.

What do I keep?

You keep the plan regardless of what we do next.

Does the calculator store or send my numbers?

No. It runs in your browser. Nothing is sent unless you choose to send the result to me, and a share link keeps your numbers after the # sign, which browsers do not send to this site.

Can an AI agent run this calculator?

Yes. The same calculation is available as the run_calculator tool on this site's MCP server and at GET /api/v1/calculators?id=diagnostic, with the same inputs, formulas and limits as this page.

Work with me on the next decision

I personally review the numbers behind the result, agree the scope with you and deliver the work. Bring the questions the calculator raised.
