AI agents for lifecycle operations
Choose the next customer action from the current state
Built the growth engine that took cnvrg.io to its acquisition by Intel.
A customer converts while an onboarding message waits in a queue. A cancellation event arrives late. Two systems disagree about whether an account should receive an upgrade offer. I build agent-assisted lifecycle workflows that turn permitted customer evidence into a clear next action or an owned exception. I personally design, implement and test the work within your agreed scope.
Keep the journey relevant when customer state changes
The recurring job is deciding what should happen next, checking that the customer is still eligible and confirming what the destination accepted. It can support onboarding, adoption, renewal, expansion or winback across SaaS, apps and ecommerce. Each journey needs its own product-value milestone, communication rules and operating owner.
| Situation | What I build | Useful output |
|---|---|---|
| A customer reaches the intended milestone | A current-state check before the next reminder | Exit the obsolete path; record the destination state |
| Product and billing records conflict | A source-bound exception with the conflicting evidence | A named owner resolves the case before affected action |
| A useful next step is unclear | A permitted interpretation step using approved product facts | A proposed action with its basis and review condition |
| A journey action fails or times out | Reconciliation and controlled recovery | Accepted, not accepted or unresolved; no blind repeat |
For broader journey strategy, messages and retention work, see lifecycle marketing. The CRM handoff workflow follows inquiries and receiving owners. This workflow follows changing customer state and accepted journey actions.
If the work starts with a brief, copy, HTML or a template, email production creates the reviewable message and campaign assets. Lifecycle operation still checks whether the current customer state permits the selected action. Content approval is not recipient eligibility, and an eligible journey rule is not factual review of the email.
Give the agent a useful decision, not permission to invent eligibility
Exact customer identity, suppression, event identity and approved exit conditions belong in explicit checks. An agent can interpret a permitted support note, explain a conflicting state or suggest an approved next step. It should not infer consent, invent a product capability or override an exclusion because a message sounds helpful.
I compare an ordinary event-and-rule workflow with an agent-assisted step before selecting the build. If the rule is sufficient, we keep it simple. Where interpretation helps, we specify its sources, permitted output and review conditions. A source note is evidence to interpret, not permission to change the workflow’s operating rules.
Worked example: the customer completes setup before the reminder runs
Illustrative scenario, not a live customer record or executed test: a product event queues a setup reminder. Before dispatch, an authoritative record shows that the same customer has completed the agreed milestone. A late copy of the original event then arrives.
| Input or event | Expected decision | Evidence to keep |
|---|---|---|
| Current milestone is confirmed | Remove eligibility for the obsolete reminder | Customer identity, state source, time and rule version |
| The original event arrives again | Relate it to the original decision; no second action | Source-event identity and action record |
| A support note suggests a different problem | Propose the relevant approved help or route it for review | The note’s source and the basis for the proposal |
| State lookup is unavailable | Hold the affected action and create an exception | Missing source, responsible owner and next check |
| Destination response times out | Check whether the action was accepted before retrying | Destination identity and accepted or unresolved status |
The example’s useful outcome is an obsolete reminder prevented under the agreed rule. It does not establish improved activation or retention. I implement the selected workflow and test the late-event, stale-state and failed-action branches before widening its operation.
From the customer milestone to a checked action
- Define the customer-value milestone, eligible population, source authority, freshness window, suppression and exit rules with product and commercial owners.
- Build the permitted event connections, identity checks and the selected interpretation or review queue. Confirm account features and access before committing to an integration.
- Check current eligibility again at the agreed action point. Record the source and rule versions used for the decision.
- Run only the actions authorised for the workflow, then reconcile the destination’s accepted state. Distinguish a queued action, delivery attempt and accepted action.
- Review exceptions and hand over the configuration, message versions, acceptance cases and recovery procedure, or keep me operating the agreed process.
We agree what stale means for each source and how long a case can wait. Missing information stays unresolved rather than becoming “eligible by default.” The mechanism depends on the actual platform; a queue record alone does not prove that every later send will recheck the state.

Resolve the exception without creating a second mistake
I build the agreed pause and escalation paths for duplicate events, conflicting customer states, missing sources and failed actions. If an outcome is unknown, the workflow checks the receiving system before repeating an external action. A reassuring summary is not a receipt.
For a reversible configuration change, keep the previous value and inspect the current state before restoring it. A later valid update must survive recovery. A message already sent cannot be unsent; its incident response may include stopping related actions, notifying the responsible owner and agreeing any correction. Live communication stays within the accepted permission and content rules.
Platform behaviour needs to be checked for the selected account. For example, Klaviyo’s browse-abandonment guidance discusses the flow’s conditions and exclusions. That is not proof that another platform or an installed journey applies the same checks.
Make the business case with the full operating effort
Before the pilot, define the eligible customer population, accepted actions, duplicate or suppression failures, age of unresolved exceptions and time spent reviewing and correcting cases. Include platform, model, maintenance and human-review costs. Compare the same task and source definitions after implementation.
A correctly suppressed reminder or accepted journey action is a process result. Activation, renewal and incremental contribution need mature cohorts and an appropriate comparison, such as a holdout where feasible. Opens or clicks alone do not establish retained revenue. We can accept the implementation while a commercial result remains pending or inconclusive.
I build and operate the scope we agree
I’m Yaniv Goldenberg, Fractional Head of Growth & CMO. I personally map the journey, implement the agreed event and platform connections, write or adapt approved messages, build the review and recovery paths and test the receiving state. Product changes, service fulfilment and commercial approvals have named client owners.
The initial scope names the journey, systems, permissions, volume, costs, milestones and acceptance cases. A focused investigation may be read-only; a build and handover or my continuing operation can be agreed. Separate Advisory is advice-only.
Bring one journey that reaches customers in the wrong state, a permitted example of the evidence and the people who own product state and communications. We will define the smallest useful implementation and what would justify extending it.
Questions before the build
Do you build the workflow or only provide advice?
I personally design, implement and test the agreed workflow, including the selected connections, messages, exceptions and handover. A diagnostic can remain read-only; later implementation and ongoing operation are agreed explicitly. Separate Advisory is the advice-only offer.
How is this different from a lifecycle marketing engagement?
Lifecycle marketing covers the broader journey, messaging and commercial decisions. This workflow focuses on repeated customer-state decisions, current eligibility, exceptions and confirmation of accepted journey actions. It can be part of a broader lifecycle engagement or a focused implementation.
When is an AI agent useful instead of ordinary automation?
Use rules for exact identity, events, exclusions and permitted actions. An agent may help interpret allowed notes or conflicting context and propose a supported next step. I test whether that interpretation adds enough value to justify its cost and review effort.
Can it send messages or change journeys automatically?
Routine actions can run only within the rules and permissions agreed for the workflow. New message facts, offers, eligibility changes and ambiguous cases go to the assigned owner where required. Access to a tool does not grant open-ended sending or commercial authority.
What if a customer converts after entering a queue?
The implementation checks current eligibility at the agreed action point and applies the accepted exit or suppression rule. I verify how the selected platform handles that timing; a queue entry alone does not prove a later action is still appropriate.
What happens after a timeout or duplicate event?
Keep the original event and action identity, then inspect destination evidence before any retry. A duplicate must not silently create another accepted action. If the outcome cannot be confirmed, the case stays unresolved with an owner and the affected action is held under the agreed policy.
Will it reduce churn or save a fixed number of hours?
Those effects must be measured for the actual workflow. Compare full operating effort, review and correction costs, then assess activation or renewal using mature cohorts and the agreed comparison. A technically correct action does not guarantee a commercial improvement.
