The whole revenue engine, part-time

Fractional Chief Growth Officer

Led growth at cnvrg.io before its acquisition by Intel.

I bring senior growth leadership and personal execution across marketing, sales handoffs, product journeys, retention and measurement. We agree which responsibilities and decision rights I own, the work I personally implement and how results will be reviewed for your client or project scope.

A growth mandate can connect acquisition, product journeys, sales handoffs, retention and measurement. I personally lead and implement the agreed work, with decision rights and client dependencies explicit. Reporting records eligible source matches and unknown journeys rather than claim a complete path for every customer. We agree continuing operation or a tested handoff with maintenance owners. To compare the cost assumptions before scoping a growth leadership role, see fractional CGO cost.

What the role actually is

A fractional CGO owns revenue, not a channel

A growth mandate can connect marketing, sales, product and customer success around a shared commercial decision. The title does not itself grant authority: name the decision owners, dependencies, implementation and measures across the functions included in the agreement.

A stalled handoff, unclear activation journey or unowned retention task can call for cross-functional work. I personally investigate the agreed sources, lead the selected plan and implement the work. At Elementor I led acquisition during company growth from $200K to $20M ARR, alongside the wider team; that history informs the operating approach without implying every corporate function reported to me.

The 4 levers a CGO owns

One operator, four levers, one number

01

GTM and cross-functional alignment

Break the silos. Product, marketing, and sales operate from one growth blueprint instead of three competing roadmaps. This is the lever that unlocks the other three.

02

Revenue operations

Diagnose funnel friction, cut customer acquisition cost, raise lifetime value. Real attribution, not last-click vanity. Where most of my early wins come from, because it is where most companies are blind.

03

Sales optimization

Build a predictable pipeline, mentor the account executives, raise close rates. Marketing that generates leads sales cannot convert is just expensive noise, so the CGO owns the handoff.

04

Retention and expansion

I personally investigate and implement agreed retention and expansion work, alongside acquisition where relevant. Compare the actual contribution, cost, customer experience and observation window; expansion is not automatically cheaper, and either CMO or CGO roles can include it when mandated.

How the engagement runs

What a fractional CGO engagement looks like

Weeks 1-3

Diagnose before touching anything

Map the full funnel, instrument real attribution, find where revenue actually leaks. Most companies have a strong opinion about their bottleneck and most of those opinions are wrong.

Month 1-2

Write one growth blueprint

One plan product, marketing, and sales all operate from: a single definition of a qualified lead, one source of truth for pipeline, one owner for expansion revenue. An operating system, never a slide deck.

Ongoing

Own one number

Stay accountable to one agreed metric, usually net new revenue or net revenue retention. If a tactic does not move it, it does not happen. Time commitment, duration and contract terms are agreed before work starts.

Why the model exists

Why companies hire a fractional CGO now

Compare the current leadership gap, implementation workload and team capacity with the responsibilities of a full-time or fractional CGO. A scoped engagement can cover a defined need; hiring too early or choosing fractional does not determine the financial outcome by itself.

The same person who diagnoses the leak owns the fix and reports the result.

A fractional engagement inverts that. You get a C-suite operator who has run the full revenue engine before, at the bandwidth the problem needs, with a defined scope and a clean exit. It fits two moments especially well: a growth plateau where the bottleneck is genuinely unclear, and fundraise or exit prep, where investors buy a credible, repeatable growth model rather than last quarter numbers.

The model works because accountability is concentrated. One operator owns the number across marketing, sales, and retention, so there is no finger-pointing between functions when growth stalls. The same person who diagnoses the leak owns the fix and reports the result.

FAQ

Fractional chief growth officer FAQ

What is a fractional chief growth officer?

A fractional CGO provides senior growth leadership for an agreed portion of the business’s needs. My work combines leadership and personal implementation across the selected funnel responsibilities. Scope, decision rights, delivery capacity, cadence and fees are agreed for each client or project; the title alone does not establish them.

How is a fractional CGO different from a fractional CMO?

Both roles can span the funnel. Choose from the actual leadership gap, cross-functional decision rights, personal implementation and team coverage. My own CMO and CGO engagements can include acquisition, product journeys, sales handoffs, retention and measurement within the agreed mandate.

How much does a fractional CGO cost?

Fees depend on the growth responsibilities and implementation included in your engagement. We define the funnel stages I own, deliverables, team dependencies, time commitment and review cadence before agreeing pricing. Compare proposals on that scope and accountability; a day rate alone does not tell you which work will actually get done.

When should a company hire a fractional CGO?

When growth has stalled and you cannot find the bottleneck, when sales and marketing are siloed, when you are preparing for a raise and need a credible growth model, or when you need executive direction without a permanent six-figure salary.

What does a fractional CGO engagement look like in practice?

I personally inspect the agreed funnel and customer records, develop the growth plan and implement the selected work. We name decision rights and dependencies with product, marketing and sales, define the measures and agree the first deliverables, review cadence and observation window. Time commitment, duration and contract terms are agreed before work starts.

Who is a fractional CGO engagement a good fit for, and who is it not for?

It fits companies with product market fit and real traction that want to scale revenue, not just traffic. It is not for pre-revenue companies looking for equity-only strategic guidance, and I don't take free advisory boards. It is also the wrong product if the brief is running Meta for less than the current agency charges.

How do I get started with a fractional CGO?

Book a scoping call and tell me what has stalled, what the funnel looks like now, and what the board expects next. I will tell you whether a fractional CGO is the right call, what bandwidth the engine needs, and what the first 30 days look like. I reply to messages within 1 business day.

Which terms are settled before the work begins, from scope to confidentiality and data access?

Confidentiality, NDA, data and tool access, and security are agreed per engagement. Scope, time commitment, duration and contract terms are agreed before work starts. Contract terms, including duration and notice period, are agreed per engagement.
