B2B Pipeline Coverage Calculator

Work backward from a bookings target. Model the qualified pipeline, opportunities and leads needed, with an explicit deadline and sales-cycle assumption.

Scenario workbenchSample inputs

Pipeline reverse plan

Backsolve whole-stage demand, timing and capacity against a net-new bookings target.

Work backward from bookings, with win-rate and sales-cycle assumptions visible.

Set your assumptions

Define the target

Presentation unit only; no exchange-rate conversion or market pricing data.

Net-new annual-contract bookings; no renewals/expansion unless explicitly included. Allowed input: 0–1000000000000 USD.

Do not include these wins in open pipeline. Allowed input: 0–1000000000000 USD.

UTC calendar date YYYY-MM-DD.

UTC calendar date YYYY-MM-DD.

Pipeline and deal economics

Open opportunity value, excluding already won. Allowed input: 0–1000000000000 USD.

Needed to derive whole opportunity counts. Allowed input: 0–1000000000000 USD.

User assumption. Allowed input: 0–100 %.

Assumed lag to target close. Allowed input: 0–3650 days.

Stage rates, timing and capacity

Assumption, not guaranteed bookings. Allowed input: 0–100 %.

Share expected to close within the period. Allowed input: 0–100 %.

Rate for this comparable funnel. Allowed input: 0–100 %.

Rate for this comparable funnel. Allowed input: 0–100 %.

Optional; blank unknown, zero no capacity. Allowed input: 0–1000000000000 opportunities/week.

Optional; blank unknown. Allowed input: 0–1000000000000 leads/week.

Optional segment mix

Split the target across meaningful segments with different deal values, rates or sales cycles. Shares must total 100%. Blank cells must be completed; an empty list uses the main scenario.

No additional segments. The main scenario remains independent.

Illustrative sample

Whole-stage requirements and deadline arithmetic use stated probabilities, not guaranteed bookings.

Monetary amounts use USD; no exchange-rate conversion. Display values are rounded to two decimals. CSV exports retain returned numeric values.

What to do next

  1. Reconcile booked vs open records.
  2. Confirm close dates and segment lag.
  3. Assign weekly creation/handling ownership before the deadline.
Assumptions and limits

Assumptions used

  • Editable scenario inputs; not measured outcomes or benchmarks.
  • Already booked wins are excluded from open pipeline; expected existing closes are probability-weighted, not guaranteed.
  • Each whole-stage count rounds upward; openInPeriod is supplied close-date coverage, not a verified distribution.
  • Optional handling capacities are evaluated per segment window; shared cross-segment staffing still requires a reconciled calendar.

What this does not establish

  • No guarantee of business results.
  • No universal3xcoverage rule, budget guarantee, renewal or expansion forecast.

Calculations and pasted-evidence analysis run in this browser. Saving is optional.

Pipeline that arrives too late cannot solve this period’s target

A coverage ratio says little without a remaining target, a stage definition and timing. Separate already-booked business from open pipeline, then estimate which opportunities can realistically close within the target period. Keep net-new bookings distinct from renewals, expansion and recognized revenue.

Method and assumptions

Subtract already-booked value from the target, with a floor of zero. Apply an explicit win probability to eligible open pipeline. Backsolve the additional qualified pipeline and opportunities from the remaining modeled gap, then derive leads through your lead-to-opportunity assumption. Move the creation deadline backward by the sales-cycle duration.

An illustrative example

For an illustrative 100,000 remaining target and a 25% assumed in-period win rate, 400,000 of eligible qualified pipeline would be needed before considering open pipeline. If your sales cycle extends beyond the target date, pipeline created now may contribute to a later period instead. A universal three-times rule would miss that issue.

Turn the result into a useful next step

Check the close-date cohort, current pipeline quality, qualification definition and execution capacity. Assign a person to each pipeline-creation action and revisit the assumptions as opportunities progress. I personally lead SDR programme design, training, management and automation; your assigned SDRs execute prospecting and follow-up.

What the result can establish

Weighted pipeline is an expectation under your assumptions, not committed revenue. Average sales-cycle duration hides variation and does not establish a close-date distribution. The tool does not forecast individual deals, supply SDR staffing or perform outreach.

Questions before you use the result

Is three-times pipeline coverage always sufficient?

No. Required coverage depends on your win probability, timing, deal mix and qualification definition. Use your own explicit assumptions.

Should won deals remain in open pipeline?

No. Already-booked value is subtracted from the target. Counting won deals again in open pipeline would double count them.

What does a late-pipeline warning mean?

Under the supplied sales-cycle assumption, new opportunities may not close before the target deadline. Review the timing and plan for the appropriate period.

Does the service include you doing prospecting?

My service is personal programme leadership, training, management and automation. Assigned SDRs carry out prospecting and follow-up within the agreed programme.

Do I need to leave my email to use the result?

No. The core tool works without an email gate. Contacting me about an engagement is an optional next step.

Who delivers the consulting work?

I do. I personally lead and deliver the agreed work. Your business retains its own responsibilities and access approvals; the scope is agreed with me directly.
